Helen Skelton has opened up on experiencing an “emotional rollercoaster” as she gave an update on life with her three children.
On Wednesday, the BBC Morning Live star candidly told her 500,000 followers how she was feeling as her children returned to school following the summer holidays.
Sharing a carousel on Instagram, featuring photos of her children dressed in their school uniform, the 43-year-old opened up on “empty-nest syndrome”.
“Could write an essay on the thoughts going through my head today.
“Back to school, starting school and changing school. No one warns you about the emotional roller coaster,” she said.
The presenter explained that whilst she is grateful that her children want to go to school, and that they have “wonderful teachers and staff they race to see”, she is struggling with not having them at home anymore.
“First time in eleven years I haven’t had a babe at home,” she said as she reflected on her motherhood journey so far.
“A decade of different hats: a stay at home mum, a living abroad with her babies mum, a working mum, a single mum and a pandemic mum.”
She concluded the post by wishing her friends, family and followers a happy September, though expressed envy at those with children still at home to care for.
Skelton shares three children, Ernie, Louis, and Elsie, with her ex-husband, rugby player Richie Myler, whom she split from in 2022.
Rumours have been rife that Skelton is dating her colleague Gethin Jones, after the pair were photographed together outside the BBC studio last year.
The rumours intensified after the pair appeared side by side on the red carpet at ITV’s Pride of Britain Awards in October and later at a Royal Television Society event in Manchester.
However, Skelton has shut down the rumours, telling The Times that the pair are “just best friends”.
Jones has also addressed the speculation, previously telling The Sun: “We are very supportive of each other, we like to look out for each other. I think that's fair to say on and off camera.”
