Helen Skelton handed Strictly runners-up prize as she makes live statement about losing final to Hamza

Strictly Come Dancing star Helen Skelton made a statement about her bitter loss in the BBC dance show's final live on air on Wednesday night.

Helen was presenting the Christmas special of Winter On The Farm Live on Channel 5, from Cannon Hall Farm in South Yorkshire, on Wednesday night when she was put on the spot by her co-host and forced to address her controversial Strictly loss to Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal.

Helen appeared to be in good spirits as she hosted the show live just a few days after her and Gorka Marquez's crushing defeat.

And her Channel 5 co host Jules Hudson also had a surprise for Helen, handing her an unofficial runners-up prize for her time on Strictly.

Jules told Helen: "Now then, talking of making us proud, there is a certain somebody who has absolutely smashed it on Strictly Come Dancing!"

Helen Skelton replied: "Cheers for the compliments guys. I couldn't lose the sparkles [she said as she flashed her sequin covered dress].

"And I can't believe you haven't taken the mick out of me. Thank you so much for all of your support and all of the support from the 'farmy army' every week when you messaged and you voted.

"It made it so much closer, thank you very much."

Jules then surprised Helen with a special tongue in cheek 'runners up prize' for Strictly.

He added: "Of course the glitterball has been in your sights so we thought we'd give you something a little bit better.

"You are the proud winner of our glitterbale. Which is more important - that, or the glitterball?"

Helen replied to Jules, taken aback: "This means so much more to me!

"Joking aside, to have the support of you guys it made it feel like our journey, our adventure. And do you know what, [co presenter] JB was on the Christmas special 10 years ago so I'm putting his name down for next year and you the year after."

Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez lost out in the final of Strictly Come Dancing on Sunday, despite Helen reprising her Mein Herr Cabaret couple's choice dance - complete with a gesture for her ex Richie Myler.
