Helen Flanagan's makeup artist Kirsty Martin scoops top gong at Scottish Makeup Awards

A Scots makeup artist has scooped a top gong at The Scottish Makeup Awards for her work on clients such as Helen Flanagan and Jake Quickenden.

Kirsty Martin, 26, from Hamilton in South Lanarkshire, was named Makeup Artist of The Year 2023 during a lavish ceremony at Glasgow's Hilton Hotel on Sunday night.

The beauty, who was trained by the Kardashian's makeup artist Marco Dedavanoviv, is well-known for glamming up faces at red carpet events like the National Television Awards, the Brit Awards and BAFTAs.

Speaking to the Record, Kirsty said: "I feel so happy and grateful. I did not think this would happen to me, honestly, I think people say that all the time but I am very grateful.

"I have the best clients ever and it just makes my job so much fun.

"I was so shocked when my name was called out. I was shaking so much, I did not know how to feel. I cried because I am a very emotional person. It is just amazing."

Kirsty has travelled the world and is a pageant favourite, both in the UK and America and is certainly living her dream.

She added: "I love my job. I have a huge passion for makeup and my clients can tell that. I have worked so hard to get to where I am now.

"I did not used to sleep. I would work twenty-four-seven and because of that I ended up building a lot of good connections. At the start of my career I worked for photographers for free.

"That then gave me my portfolio, and come this April, it will be nine years since I first started doing makeup."

Last night's event brought together over 150 guests, including leading industry experts, top beauty bloggers, and Scotland’s most successful makeup artists.

A Spokesperson for The Scottish Make-Up Awards 2023 said: "Scotland’s make-up industry is truly exceptional, and it’s an honour to recognise and celebrate the talent and dedication of the professionals who make it so remarkable.

"The Scottish Make Up Awards 2023 winners are a testament to the creativity, innovation, and passion that make Scotland one of the leaders in the global beauty industry.

"We are proud to recognise the outstanding achievements of this year’s winners and to support the growth and development the country’s thriving makeup industry.

"Congratulations to all of the winners and finalists of The Scottish Make Up Awards 2023."
