Heineken, Strongbow and Amstel prices to rise amid soaring running costs

Heineken will raise the price of its lagers due to current impact of inflation.

The company, which also supplies Strongbow and Amstel, said that the decision was based on the soaring costs of ingredients and energy.

Input costs for the firm are said to be on the rise by a mid-teens percentage with the price of barley rising by double in the past year.

Aluminium prices will also go up by around 50 per cent, the Mirror reports.

The price rise of the beers and drinks on the supermarket shelves remains unclear.

Heineken chief executive Wolf van den Brink said: “These kind of price increases and inflation, I think we have not seen in a generation.”

Last year was reportedly a strong year for Heineken, after restrictions to hospitality sent profits soaring.

The firm said that net revenues increased by 11.3 per cent from £13.4bn In 2021. The sales of Heineken’s own-branded beer shot up by 17.4 per cent.

Profits rose by a whopping 80 per cent in 2021.

But the common year is said to be “uncertain” due to the challenges posed by rising input costs.

Van den Brink added: “It’s very hard for us as experts to say whether Heineken’s increased production costs are wholly reflected in higher prices for customers.”

He also added that the rising cost of living crisis could lead to ‘softer beer consumption’ as drinks reassess their drinking habits.

Inflation rose to its highest in three decades earlier this week, with the price of food, energy prices and fuel continuing to soar.

The cost of living is now rising faster than wages and is expected to climb above 7 per cent this year.
