Pete Hegseth's high-profile fitness drive has come under scrutiny after a viral video appeared to show the defence secretary struggling to keep up with troops during a workout in California, prompting a wave of online ridicule.

Hegseth, 46, ran with military personnel on Wednesday, 7 October, but was filmed trailing behind the pack as numerous runners passed him or appeared to maintain a faster pace. At least one female service member also appeared to run past him.
