Southern Thailand has been warned of increased thunderstorms between Wednesday and Saturday, with the rainy season expected to officially begin by mid-May, according to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD).
Easterly winds covering the lower South will bring heavy rain to some areas of the region, the department said on Monday.
Nationwide, rainfall has been increasing since the beginning of May but remains uneven, the TMD said. Daytime temperatures have remained hot to very hot, with chances of thunderstorms and summer storms in the late afternoon into evening.
By May 15–17, signals of seasonal transition are predicted to appear, marking the approach of the rainy season. Farmers and the public are advised to plan water storage and closely follow weather forecasts.
For air quality, upper Thailand—previously smoggy—is now recording good to moderate levels of dust and haze, thanks to scattered rainfall.
