There was a heavy police presence near Newport city centre on Thursday evening as armed officers attended a home in Stow Hill. One man was reportedly escorted out of a property on the road close to the Sleep Station by the officers while the road was closed for a short time at around 8pm.
Onlookers said unmarked police cars parked up before “five or six” police cars followed minutes later. There was also a dog handler in attendance, they said.
“Police entered one property and then left it through the front door before going into another house about five doors up,” one witness said. “They then barged through the door and brought a man out of the house.
“It was all very quick. The road was only closed for a very short time. I was a bit shocked – you don’t usually see things like this in Stow Hill.”
At 9pm one officer was reportedly still in attendance and was still entering the house where the man had been taken from. Gwent Police has been contacted for comment. If you'd like to sign up to our Newport newsletter for news from the city straight to your inbox you can do so here.
