Armed police shut a Welsh market town's high street after a report of a knifeman. A heavy police presence was seen in Cowbridge on Tuesday night as a police helicopter searched the area.
A South Wales Police spokesman said on Wednesday: "At around 9.40pm last night officers responded to a report of an incident on Westgate, Cowbridge, where a man was seen in possession of a knife. The police helicopter assisted with a search of the area.
"Armed officers were deployed as a precaution to ensure the safety of the public and police officers. A 20-year-old man was located and detained under the Mental Health Act."

Cowbridge High Street was closed both ways as of 10.19pm with people being turned away from the area by police, according to social media reports. Locals said a police helicopter hovered close to Cowbridge Athletic Club's field for at least 20 minutes and armed officers gathered on the High Street pavement during the search.
