Heathrow Airport has said that it asked for its Belfast flights to be cancelled as there were too many passengers attending the airport today.
Two British Airways flights from Heathrow to Belfast were cancelled today after the airport requested that airlines remove a number of flights from their schedules.
Heathrow has said that the move was made after it was expecting higher passenger numbers at the airport than it would have been able to safely manage.

30 flights out of 1,2000 scheduled were cancelled and it is understood the Belfast ones were selected as passengers had other options available to rebook a flight to the city.
A Heathrow spokesperson said: “We are expecting higher passenger numbers in today’s morning peak (30th June) than the airport currently has capacity to serve, and so to keep everyone safe we have asked airlines to remove 30 flights from the morning peak for today only.
"We will work with airlines to get affected passengers rebooked onto other flights outside of the peak so that as many as possible can get away today, and we apologise for the impact this has on travel plans. We are working hard to ensure everyone has a smooth journey through Heathrow this summer, and the most important thing is to make sure that all service providers at the airport have enough resources to meet demand.”
A British Airways spokesperson said: "As a result of Heathrow's requirement for all airlines to reduce their schedules, we've made a small number of cancellations. We're in contact with affected customers to apologise, advise them of their consumer rights and offer them alternative options, including a refund or rebooking."
