Hearts transfer latest as Jambos 'target' set to stay at Newcastle and midfielder linked

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that reported Hearts target Elliot Anderson will stick with the Magpies for now.

Tynecastle boss Robbie Neilson has made six signings in the transfer window so far this summer but he isn't done yet. It was reported that Scotland youth international Anderson was a loan target following a great spell at Bristol Rovers but Newcastle gaffer Howe says moves to Hearts or elsewhere won't happen until late August at least after a strong pre-season.

He told Newcastle World: “He’s performed very well but no decision will be made on his future until towards the end of the transfer window, probably the last few days. At the moment, it certainly looks like he’s going to stay with us, because of how he’s performing. or me, during pre-season, he’s got better and better. So great signs for him. From my first days here, we could see he was a quality player but just needed games.

"Last year, we couldn’t give him that opportunity. He’s benefitted from his loan hugely in certain aspects of his game - he’s come back and looked a more complete player.”

Meanwhile, the Edinburgh Evening News claim that Hearts are keen to talk with former Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City midfielder Jacob Davenport, who is a free agent.
