Hearts are set to cut all Tynecastle away allocations to around 650, with the exception of city rivals Hibs.
Record Sport understands the Jambos are slashing the number of travelling fans inside their Gorgie ground due to bumper season ticket sales and the demand from walk up punters for home tickets. It means 10 of the 11 clubs visiting the capital next season will be given just one section of the Roseburn stand for Premiership fixtures.
A gentleman’s agreement with the Hibees means Hearts’ neighbours will be exempt from the new policy regarding away briefs. They will continue to get all 3,600 seats behind the goals, which ensures Hearts in return will still receive the entire South Stand at Easter Road when they travel across town on derby day. But the remaining top flight fan bases face a ticket scramble when taking on Steven Naismith’s side this season, Celtic and Rangers in particular.
Aberdeen were denied a request for extra tickets for May’s encounter. The Dons were limited to the far right section of the away end, with all remaining tickets on sale to home fans, which were duly snapped up for the hosts’ 2-1 win.
Glasgow’s big two have been used to reduced Tynecastle ticket allocations, reduced to two sections in recent seasons. However, news that it is set to shrink further won't be received well given the demand to attend games on the road. However, it brings the number of tickets allocated by Hearts to away supporters in line with that of the Old Firm.
The Glasgow rivals made no away tickets available to each other when facing off last season, although that is reportedly set to change when they next meet. Rangers are set to offer Celtic 700 briefs for the first encounter of 2023/24.
