Hearts tie down Macaulay Tait as he makes 'next level' admission over Lowland League challenge

Macaulay Tait is the latest Hearts youngster to commit his future to the club.

The 17-year-old - who has been skipper for the B team and impressed in the debut Lowland League campaign for the wee Jambos - has put pen to paper on a two-year deal following hot on the heels of team-mate Bobby McLuckie.

The midfielder was a mainstay in the team that played in Scotland's fifth tier this season with his passing ability one of his key strengths. He signed off a brilliant personal season by winning the B-Team Player of the Year award at the club's Player of the Year bash last weekend with the youngster now looking to make inroads towards Hearts' top team squad.

Speaking to the Hearts official website, he said: “This new contract is something I’ve been looking to try and earn all season. I’m delighted it’s all sorted now. I’ve loved every minute of it and this year, playing against men every week in the Lowland League, was exactly what I needed and really helped push my game onto the next level.

"It's nice to sign this alongside Bobby, and hopefully we can be about the squad in the years to come."

Sporting Director Joe Savage said; “Getting Macaulay signed up is another great bit of news for the club.

“He is a talented young player who has reaped the benefits of a season in senior football, as evidenced with his B Team Player of the Year Award win.

“Like Bobby McLuckie, Macaulay has been in and around first team training and matchday squads throughout the season, so this new contract is both a reward and a motivator for him.

“It can be challenging to keep the best young talent when bigger clubs, particularly down south, come sniffing so to get two highly-rated players committing their futures to Hearts in two days is fantastic, and we’re not stopping there.”
