The Foundation of Hearts have slammed the fans who defaced the mosaic of the club badge outside Tynecastle with anti-Robbie Neilson graffiti, describing it as “pathetic.”
The Jambos made it four defeats in a row on Saturday after letting an early lead slip in a 2-1 loss at Kilmarnock. Lawrence Shankland had given the visitors an early lead before Danny Amstrong’s penalty and Christian Doidge’s strike right on half time ended up being enough for Derek McInnes’ side. The result saw their lead in third cut to just one point after Aberdeen’s win at St Johnstone.
A section of fans have made their feelings about Neilson known, with the worry being that they surrender third place and miss out on the Europa Conference League group stage after finishing well ahead of the rest last season and banking several million pounds in the process. But one fan went further, spraying an x-rated message on Foundation Plaza outside the Gorgie ground’s main stand, urging Neilson to go.
But fans group and majority club shareholders the Foundation of Hearts have strongly criticised the stunt. A statement read: “An utterly shameful, pathetic act of vandalism at Tynecastle yesterday. If this was really the act of a Hearts 'supporter', it's a gross insult to the badge and, perpetrated on the plaza named for the fans who did so much to save the club, it's a shocking insult to all of them.”
The travelling support in Ayrshire were angry at full-time, and Neilson admitted afterwards they had every right to be. He said: "We had a brilliant fan base here, a massive frustration from them at the end and rightly so but they backed us throughout the game and it will be the same next week at Tynecastle. they will back us to the hilt and it will be up to us to perform.”
