Heartfelt tributes have been paid to a 'beautiful' and 'intelligent' young woman who was found dead in Salford Quays. Charlotte Burlace-Colquhoun was just 20-years-old and had only just started at university when she was located at the Quays on Tuesday morning (December 20).
Police raced to the scene, beside the Central Bay and the Salford Watersports Centre, at around 8.20am, with forensics also pictured at the waterside after her body was found. Police had previously issued an appeal after Charlotte had been reported missing.
Paying tribute to Charlotte, who was also known as 'Lottie' to her close friends, her family have described her as a 'kind' and 'creative' individual who 'loved people'.
The statement said: "My wife, my daughter and I love Charlotte very much and we’re already missing her. She was beautiful, intelligent, kind, creative and loved people and cats.
"Charl had just started at university studying ‘Post-Production for TV and Film’ and was beginning a new future with great prospects.
"Her death is a massive loss to us all. Thank you to everyone who made her life a little easier while she was here. We would like to sincerely thank Greater Manchester Police for finding our daughter quickly and for their care and professionalism."
Close friend Poppy Rigby was among those who paid tribute to her, telling the Manchester Evening News : “Lottie was a good friend of mine. She lived two floors above me and I met her the third day after moving in and invited her to come to our flat.
“She posted to her Snapchat and was someone who went out on her own on late night walks frequently. The night she went missing she posted and then there was nothing else from her.
“Lottie was funny. She didn’t think she was, but she really really was.
“You always knew she was there for you if you needed her, even if she didn’t know what to say to you she would still listen.
“She was one of the first people willing to help someone. She loved film and was so gifted with so much going for her in terms of her talent, film making and editing.
“She always enjoyed going down to the river which is bittersweet for us now. We were very open with each other about our issues and it brought us a lot closer.”
Friend Chloe May Tolley added: "Lottie, I'm absolutely heartbroken that you're gone. You were such an incredible, talented, intelligent person and I loved our silly, random chats. I'll never forget you and you'll always have a place in my heart. I hope you're smiling up there and watching over all of us, that you're finally at peace. I love and miss you."
As another friend Mia White said: “I’m going to miss her so much. I’ll never forget how much we used to laugh together. Rest in peace Lottie."
Police cordoned off walkways beside the water on Tuesday morning and remained there for a number of hours. There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. Her family have asked for privacy while they grieve her loss.
