A heartbroken mum has shared upsetting images of her four-year-old daughter who was left with multiple injuries after being mauled by a dog in an alleged attack. Little Harley Chatterton may be left with permanent scars after the incident involving a one-year-old Jackador dog in Glasgow.
Harley need 60 stitches after suffering 13 injuries on her face, including deep lacerations on her nose, mouth and lip. She had been in her gran's friend's communal garden on Bredishold Road, Baillieston, at around 4.30pm on May 14, when the dog savaged her, the Daily Record reports.
Her parents Caprice and Stephen have been left heartbroken at their daughter's injuries. Mum-of-three Caprice Finlay told the Daily Record: "Only time will tell if the scars will disappear. The surgeon gave us scarring cream, but said they could be there forever."
Harley was heard screaming in pain as multiple women rushed to pull the dog off of her. Harley's gran Janet Finlay had witnessed the dog pounce on her granddaughter from a nearby balcony and quickly ran to her aid.
She was left covered in blood as she attempted to free the terrified tot from the dog's grip. Caprice said she feared the worst when she arrived shortly after the incident and saw her mum drenched in blood.
The 24-year-old added: "All I had been told was that Harley had been attacked by a dog. I didn't know where or how bad it was. Me and Stephen got there quickly after it happened.
"The first thing I saw was my mum covered in blood. I was horrified, I knew it must have been serious.
"When I saw my little girl's face I was heartbroken. She was in so much pain and wouldn't let anyone near her. She was crying hysterically."
Emergency services were called to the scene and Harley was rushed to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow. The following day she underwent plastic surgery in a bid to repair the deep wounds.
After a two hour operation she was left with 60 stitches in 13 different places on her face. Caprice said her daughter's lip was so swollen that she could barely eat or drink for two days.
She added: "She was in agony and couldn't eat or drink. It was so hard to watch because we couldn't make her better. After she saw herself in the mirror, she kept asking why the dog did this to her. She said, 'what did I do wrong mummy', my heart was broken for her."
A 21-year-old woman is set to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date in connection with the incident. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a child having been bitten by a dog on Bredishold Road, Glasgow at around 4.55pm on Saturday, 14 May, 2022.
“Emergency services attended and the child was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. A 21-year-old woman was released on an undertaking to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date. The dog was seized.”
