The family of a mother who died after she was attacked while walking her dog today spoke of their heartbreak, saying: “She was brutally taken from us, devastatingly too early.”
Anita Rose, 57, was found unconscious by a member of the public lying on a track in Brantham, Suffolk at about 6.25am last Wednesday. She had left her home at 5am to take her springer spaniel, called Bruce, for a walk.
She suffered a head injury and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for treatment but died yesterday morning.
Ms Rose’s family paid tribute to her and called for witnesses to come forward. They said: “Our mum was well known and loved in the community. She was brutally taken from us devastatingly too early, and we have been robbed of so much time with her.
“She wasn’t just a mum of six, she was also a grandma to 13, a long-term partner, a mother-in-law and a special friend to so many. Someone somewhere must know something, and we urge them to come forward.”
Suffolk Police said a 45-year-old man from the Ipswich area was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of attempted murder.
He has since been re-arrested on suspicion of murder. A 37-year-old woman from the Ipswich area was also arrested on Saturday on suspicion of handling stolen goods in connection with the incident.
Officers had been searching for a missing iPhone and a pink zip-up jacket, which they believe Ms Rose was wearing before the incident. The mobile has been found but the jacket is still missing.
Detective Superintendent Mike Brown said: “The investigation to establish the full circumstances surrounding the offence continues, as do enquiries to establish the cause of death”.
Meanwhile, a murder probe has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in an east London park. Police were called to reports of a fight in Plashet Park, Newham, at 7.38pm on Saturday. A man, understood to be 20, was found with stab injuries and he died at the scene despite officers administering first aid, the Met Police said.
Officers believe they know who the man is and inquiries are ongoing to identify him and inform his family. A teenage male with stab injuries and another with head injuries were also found at the scene, the force said.
Both were taken to hospital and neither is in a life-threatening condition, it added. No arrests have been made.
Superintendent Dion Brown said: “A murder investigation has been launched and continues at pace this morning, with skilled detectives supported by local officers and specialists from across the Met. This investigation will be exceptionally thorough and forensic in its nature.
“I urge any witnesses or anyone who has information to share what they know with police.”
