A devastated daughter is desperately trying to raise £17k to bring her dad's body back to the UK after he sadly died abroad.
Glyn Jones moved to Turkey just under two years ago to spend his retirement with a woman he had met. But the grandad-of-three, formerly of Silverdale, tragically died on Friday, July 8, after suffering from what was believed to be a chest infection.
He is survived by his beloved children Helena, Joanne, Julie and Caroline as well as brother Trevor. Daughter Helena Smith says she received a call from her dad’s number on the day of his death, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.
The 35-year-old, from Barlaston, said: “I instantly knew it wasn’t good. We didn’t know that he was ill, apparently he died of a chest infection so his body must have been very weak. We are shocked, devastated, and feel very guilty. He was too generous for his own good and helped absolutely everyone out.
"It saddens me because when he needed help no-one was there. Prior to moving he was incredibly upbeat and very happy but his mental health was just drained out of him.
"He was so comical and the life and soul of the party. He made everybody laugh because he was so funny. Dad will be missed by everyone - I will miss his generosity and sense of humour.”
Helena and her mum are flying out to see Glyn's body - which is lying in a morgue - on Sunday (July 17). She is hoping to be able to bring her dad back home for his funeral. Lawyers have quoted the family a whopping £17,000 to bring the body home.
A fundraising page has been set up to help with the costs of getting Glyn back to North Staffordshire.
Helena added: “We’d really like to get him home but I don’t know the costs yet. If we can’t do it then he will be buried in Turkey. I wanted to have him cremated and brought home but that’s not an option over there. We can either bury him in Turkey or bring him home.
“I feel like I couldn’t get him home whilst he was alive, I want to try to do it now. It would mean the world to me to get him home. It would maybe bring me some peace if I can get him home.”
