Tributes have poured in after it was announced a beloved mum and radio presenter died.
Cassie James from Southport was given just six months to live in July last year after enduring a long battle with cancer. The mum-of-two was given the devastating news that her chemotherapy would be stopped following leg surgery in May 2022.
The 61-year-old was first diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer in August 2016 before medics found a lesion in her brain which they think was a result of the breast cancer. Halfway through her breast cancer treatment she was also told she had melanoma on the sole of her foot.

Following Stereotactic Radiotherapy Surgery to the lesion in her brain, she underwent a gruelling seven rounds of chemotherapy. Cassie had to have bilateral lumpectomies and lymph nodes removed from both armpits and she also had to have a complete hysterectomy.
The melanoma on her foot was removed shortly after going through chemotherapy for her breast cancer, leaving her on crutches for over four months while she then underwent radiation therapy as part of her continued breast cancer treatment. A year after she had the foot melanoma removed she was told that she had melanoma in her groin.
Cassie underwent a groin dissection to have 10 lymph nodes removed. This left her with acute pain from lymphedema. Despite her pain and her challenges, Cassie continued to work as a volunteer radio presenter for Southport's community radio station, Mighty Radio.
Posting on Cassie's Facebook page, her children wrote: "It is with the heaviest heart to be writing this, after a long battle with cancer Mum passed away yesterday evening she was surrounded by her family and without pain at the very end. She is the strongest lady and she put up one hell of a fight even the nurses were amazed with her strength.
"We hope to celebrate her life in a way we know she wanted. Once arrangements have been made we will add a post here and invite you all to celebrate."
Lyndsey Hughes wrote: "So very, very sad to be reading this. Cassie was such a rare, genuine caring soul who went out of her way to provide me with so much support this past year, despite her own personal situation.
"My heart is so heavy to know she has now passed. Sending love and strength to you all as a family, I will never forget her kindness."
Denise Collins commented: "Such sad news, I’m so sorry to hear this. Your mum was such a strong, brave lady who always gave such a lot to the community whilst suffering herself. RIP Cassie James
