Health experts have warned that 'the world is not prepared' for what could become an epidemic of skin infections after the first two known cases of a highly contagious fungal disease were confirmed. It has been confirmed that two women in the USA, aged 28 and 47, have Tinea, a drug-resistant ringworm.
The country's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the news. The two women suffered lesions on their neck, buttocks, thighs and abdomen. It has also been reported that family members are also suffering symptoms, reports Wales Online.
The infection, which can be transmitted easily in schools and homes, is spreading across countries, according to David Denning, Professor of Infectious Diseases in Global Health at the University of Manchester.
