Health and safety investigators have confirmed they are making enquiries after water shot out of a damaged pipe and flooded several homes in a Nottingham suburb. Severn Trent said one of its pipes was damaged by "third party contractors on a construction site building new student accommodation" near High Road, Chilwell, on Tuesday afternoon (March 7), which led to a large amount of water bursting on to nearby streets and homes for hours.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has now issued a statement about the incident. A spokesperson for the HSE said: "We are aware of this incident and making some initial enquiries."
A total of 10 properties were flooded by water from the pipe and the majority of these had to be evacuated. Those forced to leave their properties gathered at a local church - while other residents tried to create makeshift barriers to stop the water from spreading.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said the water subsided in the late hours of Tuesday. But Severn Trent said its teams had to work through the night to complete complicated repairs on Wednesday (March 8).
A video, filmed by a worker on the site where the pipe was broken, was posted to social media site TikTok after the incident and has been seen by millions of people. The footage shows the immense jet of water directly hitting a house, resulting in water washing over the home.
The construction worker commented that bricks were being thrown into the air by the water, which he said had also flooded nearby streets. The person in the video also points his camera at a piece of machinery on the site and suggests it was what damaged the pipe.
Nottinghamshire Live has repeatedly contacted the developer of the site this week requesting comment about this issue - but has not received a response.
