Headteacher who "loved to going to work" and "loved helping people" dies age 43

A headteacher who dedicated her life to helping others and was described as a "special person" has died at the age of 43. Ros Atkins was diagnosed with bowel cancer and lost her fight with the disease surrounded by loved ones.

Her family and friends are now urging people to "know the signs" and "get checked" if you experience any changes in your body. It was when Ros, from Gateacre, was on holiday with her husband John and their daughter Maggie in Scotland when she first started experiencing pain in the right side of her body that felt like a stitch.

She thought it could have been a pulled muscle but the pain gradually got worse. She went to see her GP was told to go to hospital immediately due to fears of a blood clot on her lung.
