TIRUVANNAMALAI: A panchayat union school headmaster was arrested on Monday on charges of sexually assaulting girl students in Tiruvannamalai district.
Police said parents of the students studying in a panchayat union primary school near Kalasapakkam picketed the school and staged a protest demanding action against the 55-year-old headmaster for reportedly sexually assaulting girl students.
A police team reached the spot and held peace talks with protesting parents. After preliminary inquiries, Polur all-women police arrested the headmaster under section 10 of the Protection of children from sexual offences (Pocso) act, 2012 and 506 (i) (punishment for criminal intimidation) of IPC.
The school education department has suspended the headmaster.
