MELBOURNE: A pair of 23-year-olds took the Rod Laver Arena for a second-round match of the Australian Open – world no.1 Jannik Sinner and Aussie wildcard entrant Tristan Schoolkate, ranked 173 in the world.
It was likely they knew each other, perhaps from their junior days, but Sinner, who didn’t play much on the junior tour, and Schoolkate, who played football until he was 14, but did well in the juniors thereafter, hadn’t crossed paths.
