"He was like a kid. He never really grew up " - Heartbroken daughter remembers 'best friend' dad killed in crash

The heartbroken daughter of a man killed in a motorbike crash in Sale has remembered her 'best friend' dad. Kevin Matley, 43, tragically died after his motorbike collided with a Mercedes on Wythenshawe Road on Friday night (October 28).

Police raced to the scene of the collision shortly before 7pm, where Kevin, a keen motorcyclist who 'loved' his green Kawasaki bike, was raced to hospital by paramedics, but sadly died. The driver of the car remained at the scene and is said to be assisting police with their enquiries.

Paying tribute to her dad, Kelsey Matley, 22, who lives in Sale, said he was 'so funny' and 'never really grew up'. Kevin was a father to three and had one grandaughter.

"He was like a kid. He never really grew up. He always made sure to tell me how proud he was," she told the Manchester Evening News.

"He was the funniest guy ever. He loved that bike, that was his fifth kid, that was his baby. He just never grew up. He was so funny.

"He didn't care what anyone thought. He was my best friend and he absolutely loved his granddaughter. He was so happy and so proud of her. Me and the boys know that he loved us."

Kevin was previously jailed in 2016 after he was found guilty of section 18 assault for punching a man in the face outside a pub, before going on to stab him in the stomach. But daughter Kelsey says her dad 'paid his time' and worked to 'become a better person' following the offence.

She added: "He paid his time for that, he missed births of his children and grandchild and he acknowledged it. He was genuinely working on becoming a better person and became the best person who would go out of his way to help anyone.

"He tried so hard to make up for everything. That’s how he should be remembered."

In a statement about the fatal collision, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 6.45pm on Friday, October 28, to a report of a collision involving a car and a motorbike on Wythenshawe Road, Sale. The rider of the motorbike – a man in his 40s – sadly died in hospital and an investigation is underway.

"His family are aware and our specialist officers will be supporting them. The driver of the car remained at the scene and is assisting our Serious Collision Investigation Unit with their enquiries."
