For most of his life, Clement Vandenkerckhove sold cars for a living and carried a question he couldn't shake. Who was his father? Six months ago, in a town hall that looked nothing like a palace, that question was finally answered on paper. The 26-year-old was legally recognised as the son of Prince Laurent of Belgium, younger brother of King Philippe, making him, almost overnight, a genuine member of one of Europe's oldest royal houses.
Nobody announced it at the time. The ceremony was small, procedural, and largely unnoticed until the Belgian weekly Soir Mag got hold of the story.
