'He's got me by the throat' - Duncan Ferguson took revenge on Liverpool midfielder after tunnel taunt

Jason McAteer has detailed how Duncan Ferguson once wasted no time in making his mark during a Merseyside Derby.

The big Scot - known for his no-nonsense aggression on the pitch at Everton - scored five goals in 19 derbies against the Reds and relished the vehement atmosphere that surrounded those clashes.

And ex- Liverpool man McAteer, speaking about the hatred that used to surround the derby on the pitch, detailed one occasion where the former Toffees striker was particularly aggressive from the off - potentially taunted Liverpool captain Paul Ince’s macho approach in the tunnel before kick-off.

“We were in the tunnel at Goodison, it was an early kick-off and big Dunc was playing - and he used to just stand in the tunnel and just stare,” McAteer told beIN Sports . “I was looking at him and thinking ‘ooo he’s up for this’.

“(Paul) Ince came out with no shirt on, screaming as he walked down the line to take his captain's position at the front with no top on. We go out and two minutes into the game, the ball goes up and big Dunc backs in, I go to ground. He turns over and he’s got me by the throat and literally strangling the life out of me.”

The former Reds winger then joked: “Two more minutes and I’d have had him.”
