England paceman Mark Wood is being backed to hit the ground running and bowl with fire if he's unleashed for the Ashes series opener at Perth Stadium, starting Friday. 

Wood has been named as part of England's 12-man squad for the first Test, but there are still doubts as to whether his body is ready to handle the rigours of five-day cricket.
