HBO’s Harry Potter Series Is Looking For Stars, Says It’s Committed To ‘Inclusive’ Casting

The search for the next generation of Harry Potter stars has officially begun, if you reckon your kid could have a shot at being the next Daniel Radcliffe or Emma Watson.

HBO has issued an open casting call for the roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in the upcoming TV series.

The open casting call is looking for children who are residents of the UK and Ireland and will be between the ages of 9-11 in April 2025, with HBO noting that it commits to inclusive casting.

“We are committed to inclusive, diverse casting,” the casting call reads. “For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to ethnicity, sex, disability, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other basis protected by law unless otherwise specifically indicated.”

The inclusivity commitment comes after immense backlash to the franchise following author J.K Rowling‘s vocal transphobia.

While Rowling has been a loud and proud TERF for many years, Daniel Radcliffe — the actor who brought The Boy Who Lived to the big screen — has worked tirelessly over the past decade to support trans youth.

When the original films were produced back in 2000, it took seven months to cast Daniel Radcliffe in the titular role.

But while it may take a while to find a new Harry, it may be easier to find an actor to fill the role of Lucius Malfoy — as OG Draco Tom Felton told us last year, he’s willing to come back (for the right price).

“As far as casting me as Lucius: yes. I just don’t think they can afford me,” Tom told PEDESTRIAN.TV. “Let’s make it clear I am joking.”

“But also: I’m available.”

The series is expected to start filming early next year, with Succession producer Francesca Gardiner set to showrun and executive produce the project, while fellow Succession alum Mark Mylod will serve as writer and director.

Harry Potter (the series) will be produced by Warner Bros Television and J.K Rowling’s Bronte Film — with Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts also listed as executive producers on the project.
