Josh Hazlewood and Glenn Maxwell have enjoyed contrasting fortunes in Pune but both were on the losing side as Royal Challengers Bangalore were beaten by Rajasthan Royals by 29 runs.
Hazelwood took 2-19 in four overs, taking the crucial wicket of in-form English destroyer Jos Buttler (8), and the important one of Kiwi Daryl Mitchell (16), as Rajasthan were restricted to 8-144.
With Wanindu Hasaranga taking 2-25 in his four overs that looked to set RCB up for victory despite Riyan Parag's 31-ball unbeaten 56.
RCB began well enough, despite losing Virat Kohli for nine, being 1-37 after the six-over power play.
Three balls later they were 3-37 with Faf du Plessis gone for 23 and Maxwell, who earlier bowled a tight over for four runs, for a first-ball duck.
RCB never recovered, slumping to 6-72 before being dismissed for 115 with Kuldeep Sen taking 4-20 and Ravichandran Ashwin 3-17.
