Hazel Grove MP William Wragg has announced he will not defend his seat at the next General Election. The Conservative politician tweeted the news that he will not stand in his Stockport constituency next time the country goes to the polls.
"It is a privilege to be the Member of Parliament for Hazel Grove," he wrote on Tuesday evening (November 22). "I have made the decision not to stand at the next election.
"I shall continue to represent constituents to the best of my ability in the meantime and thank everyone for their wonderful support over the years."

Mr Wragg, 34, has spoken out against Conservative leaders throughout his Parliamentary career.
He was a councillor in Stockport before becoming Hazel Grove's MP in 2015. He snatched the seat from the Lib Dems, becoming the Tory's first MP there since 1997.
He held his seat in 2017 with a slightly-reduced majority. In 2019, he won again with a majority of 4,423.
Mr Wragg called for ex-Prime Minister Boris Johnson to stand down in January over the Westminster lockdown parties controversy, submitting a letter of no confidence.
He called on Liz Truss to stand down last month, again submitting a letter of no confidence in her leadership.
In August, Mr Wragg announced he was taking a 'short break' from politics due to 'severe' anxiety and depression.
He urged those battling similar feelings to speak to someone they trust - and accept support. "Do not assume those who are outwardly confident and successful are without doubts and despair," he wrote.
Mr Wragg has held a number of Westminster committee memberships.
