Hawthorn defender Jack Scrimshaw has been hit with a one-match ban over his dangerous tackle on St Kilda's Liam Stocker.

Scrimshaw dumped his opponent into the turf in the final quarter of the Hawks' tight five-point win in Launceston on Saturday.

Stocker hit his head on the ground and looked dazed for a short time but played out the match.

A free kick was paid at the time and St Kilda played on to advantage, leading to a Max King goal.

The match review officer on Sunday assessed Scrimshaw's actions as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.

The ban means tall defender Scrimshaw will miss Hawthorn's interstate trip to face Port Adelaide in round 10, unless he can successfully overturn the charge at the tribunal.

The Hawks are yet to confirm whether they will contest the charge.

Hawthorn (3-6) could regain captain James Sicily from injury against the Power as they chase a fourth win from five games.
