ATLANTA -- With a big push from Trae Young late in the third quarter, the Hawks beat the Wizards, 118-103, Wednesday at State Farm Arena.

With this win, the Hawks move within one game of the Cavaliers, who did not play Wednesday and still occupy the No. 7 seed in the play-in tournament standings, though they’ve got two tough games remaining against Brooklyn and Milwaukee. The Hawks, Nets, Cavaliers and Hornets are all still jockeying for position, locked into seeds 7-10. But, the Nets beat the Knicks Wednesday, so the Hawks and Nets are still tied behind the Cavaliers. The Hawks have two regular-season games left, one in Miami and one in Houston.
Finishing No. 7 or 8 means the Hawks would only have to win one game to advance to the playoffs, with a second chance if they lose that first game, and finishing No. 9 or 10 would mean they need to win two consecutive games to advance.
