Have your say on Glasgow hosting the Commonwealth Games

WITH the announcement that Glasgow is hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2026, we want to hear from you.

The Scottish Government has confirmed the Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew as the host city due to rising costs.

The news follows the Australian authorities's promise to help rescue the multi-sport event by providing “a multi-million-pound investment” for Scotland to help cover the running costs.

Glasgow hosted the games in 2014 and has now committed to hosting a scaled-down version with 10 sports taking place across four venues in the city.

There have been calls for the Games to be scrapped completely following Scotland being the only country to put in a bid to be the new host nation.

The total budget for the Games is reportedly expected to be about £114m.

The multi-sport tournament is held every four years across Commonwealth countries, with Birmingham the most recent host city in 2022.

Edinburgh hosted the games in 1970 and 1986.

Athletes from the Commonwealth nations will be welcomed back to Glasgow in two years but we want to know if you agree that it should be held in Scotland.

So, let us know your thoughts by voting in our poll and leaving a comment below.
