CHANDIGARH : Haryana has witnessed an increase of 65% in the rape cases in the past eight years. A total of 944 rape-related cases were registered in the state in 2014, which reached 1,546 in 2021. While the state witnessed an almost equal number of cases from 2014 to 2017, there has been a sharp increase in the last four years from 2018 to 2021.
Concurrently, the state has witnessed a very poor conviction rate in these cases. As per the data, only 151 were convicted for rape in 2014, 108 in 2015, 91 in 2016, 84 in 2017, 48 in 2018, 28 in 2019, three in 2020 and only one in 2021.
