AMBALA: A lady assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Haryana police who was posted at Naraingarh Women police station was killed in a fatal road crash in Panjokhra Sahib area on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Lady ASI Suman Devi, who was on her way to Naraingarh from Ambala for civic body election duty, when her car got crashed into a roadside tree on the National Highway (NH)-7, allegedly due to rash driving by some unknown vehicle.
On the complaint of ASI Suman's husband Dharambir of Patti Afghan village in Kaithal district, the police have registered a case against unknown vehicle driver under Section 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Panjokhra Sahib police station on Sunday.
Dharambir said his wife was posted as ASI in Haryana police and she had her election duty in Naraingarh.
"I along with my friend Vimil Kumar also had work at Shahzadpur, and at about 4 am, we left for Shahzadpur in my car. My wife Suman was also going separately with us in her car (HR01AP5075). At about 6 am, when we reached near Garnala village, a rashly driven car (HR31C7622) crossed us from behind and rammed my wife's car", said Dharambir.
Dharambir said due to being hit from behind, Suman's car lost its control and got rammed into a tree on the roadside.
He said ASI Suman received several serious injuries and with the help of passerby, they rushed her to civil hospital, Ambala City, where the doctor declared her dead.
Panjokhra police station house officer (SHO) inspector Anant Ram said, "We have registered a case and started the investigation. The body of ASI Suman was handed over to her family members after the post-mortem. The accused driver will be arrested soon."
