PANCHKULA: The 17th National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) came up in Panchkula on Tuesday. The NIFT campus has been built on 10.35 acres of land with a budget of Rs 133.16 crore. Union textile minister Piyush Goyal and Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar inaugurated the building.
Khattar said that the new campus would be developed as a world class one. He added that Rs 133.16 crore had been spent on construction of the institute, which was built on 10.42 acres of land, having academic block on 7.50 acres and hostel block on 2.92 acres. It also has parking space for 280 vehicles. The NIFT campus has been established in collaboration with the Union ministry of textiles and NIFT, Delhi.
The highlights of the building design include energy efficient VRV system for air conditioning, rain water harvesting system, sewerage treatment plant, light weight AAC (Aerated Autoclaved) blocks, natural day light, use of recycled materials and energy efficient LED lights.
Khattar said that if the Union minister agreed to the state’s proposal, then work of second phase of construction would be completed in 50:50 ratio. In the second phase, there are plans to build hostels, theaters and auditoriums.
The CM also announced that in line with NIFT policy, 20% seats in the institute would be reserved for people holding Haryana domicile.
The institute will offer four-year degree courses in areas of fashion design/textile design, apparel production and two-year master degree courses in fashion technology, design and fashion management. Apart from this, there will also be certificate programs of one year and six months duration, said institute authorities.
Authorities said that earlier, temporary campus of NIFT was made at Government Polytechnic Institute, Panchkula and short-duration courses were started from the academic session 2019-20.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal said that he was confident about NIFT Panchkula emerging as a landmark campus.
