CHANDIGARH: The effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was burnt by the Haryana unit of the Congress in Chandigarh on Tuesday to protest against the arrest of all Congress leaders including former Congress President Rahul Gandhi in Delhi and the government's 'dictatorial' attitude.
On this occasion, state president of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee Chaudhary Udai Bhan accused the Modi government of murdering democracy.
He said that the Congress leaders wanted to meet the president on their demands in a democratic manner. But the manner in which the police (in Delhi) misbehaved with them and arrested them on the orders of the government, is highly condemnable.
Pertinently, Rahul Gandhi and the other MPs had assembled in Parliament and marched towards Vijay Chowk on their way to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to draw the President's attention to the alleged misuse of Central agencies by the government, but were stopped by police.
Udai Bhan said that it is the responsibility of the opposition to raise the issues of public interest from the road to the Parliament, fight against the Tughlaqi diktats of the government and misuse of institutions.
But the Modi government at the Centre wants to crush the opposition voice completely. That is why ED, CBI and other government institutions are being misused against Congress leaders, he said. Against this, satyagraha was organized by the Congress inside the party headquarters across the country today.
Udai Bhan said that the Enforcement Directorate's action is being taken against their leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Sonia Gandhi due to political malice.
The only aim of the government is to divert attention from the real issues. But the Congress is determined to continue raise voice on issues like rising unemployment, inflation and falling economy and rupee value. Congress will not break and will not bow down in front of the dictatorship of Modi government, said Udai Bhan.
