Haryana: 2 stuck in Panchkula dam, rescued after 3 hours

PANCHKULA: Two men swimming in the Kaushalya dam got stuck when the water level rose suddenly on Sunday, prompting a rescue operation that was successful after three hours.

Inspector Harvinder Kumar, station house officer (SHO), Pinjore police station, said on receiving information about the duo, police and National Disaster Response Force teams reached the spot.

Divers managed to take the two — Nand Kishore (28) and Sikandar Chaudhary (26), both working as daily wagers and residents of Kalka — out from the dam safely. “We were taking a bath and catching fish when the water level increased suddenly.”

NDRF officials said, “The good thing is that the two did not try to get out of the water on their own and patiently waited for help, otherwise the situation could have gone worse.” The SHO said police teams regularly visit the dam and have also placed warning boards asking people not to go near the water.
