Harvey Elliott gives Liverpool fans exciting hint ahead of next season

Harvey Elliott has given Liverpool fans an exciting reminder of what he's capable of in England U21's win last night, registering two assists and having a hand in four of the five goals scored. England beat Kosovo 5-0, with Elliott playing on the right-hand side of a midfield three.

It's the same role in which Liverpool fans saw him thrive in during the beginning of the season before picking up that brutal ankle injury against Leeds United in September. That forced him to miss over three months of action, but he would have moments after coming back last season.

This upcoming campaign, though, Elliott will be aiming for even more midfield game time at Anfield, and appearances in a more advanced role if called upon. With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi - with the latter already confirmed - all likely to leave the club, it paves the way for the 19-year-old to continue his progress.

He joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2019 and has already started forcing his way into Jurgen Klopp's plans - starting against Chelsea at Anfield last season before picking up that injury.

And although the end of the season saw him figure less, with Liverpool chasing a historic quadruple, the young midfielder reminded LFC fans of his talents in last night's performance.

Speaking on Elliott, England U21 manager Lee Carsley said ahead of the game: "He’s got an excellent attitude, works so hard and is a good guy. He has got a chance of playing. He’s trained for the last three days. He turned up at camp, tested positive with Covid, went back to Liverpool, got over Covid and joined straight back up with the squad.

"We have to make sure we don’t put him a position where we’re overextending him. He’s keen to play, he’s keen to get the minutes and we’re keen to have him. We’re looking forward to Harvey playing and being a big part of what we do."

Elliott played a big role in Blackburn Rovers' 2020/21 season, where he would spend the campaign on loan, scoring seven goals and adding 12 assists.

Elliott's former Fulham teammate in the academy, Fabio Carvalho, will join up with Liverpool in July after agreeing a deal with the Reds earlier this summer. He scored an impressive 11 goals in all competitions, with eight assists in the Championship. His versatility to play in the front three, as well as in a midfield role may see him get first-team minutes next season as he pushes for a regular starting place.
