Harvest celebrates native grains in community hands

Developing a native grain supply could have huge benefits for health and Indigenous communities. (HANDOUT/UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY)

Gathering native grains in the northwest of NSW has become an annual festival, a space to yarn, and a chance to bring community together with university researchers.

Grains were harvested from fields in Narrabri, NSW, then turned into seeds, ground down and baked into pikelets and Johnny cakes across the two-day event, hosted by the University of Sydney's Native Grains Program.
