Harsh Dubey ticks all boxes in Chennai league, to play final alongside R Ashwin

NAGPUR: When Harsh Dubey was weaving imposing performances in the CK Nayudu Trophy in April, he was being closely watched by Mylapore Recreation Club - 'A', an outfit in the Chennai League. Harsh went on to become the highest wicket-taker in the country and that helped him land a contract with Mylapore.

Less than a week after the CK Nayudu final, Harsh was playing in Chennai and started rolling his magic from the first match. He picked-up a five-for on Chennai League debut and gave a commanding start to the Mylapore campaign.

"We were looking for a left-arm spinner who can bat. His performance in the CK Nayudu Trophy stood out. The allrounder met our expectations and started delivering from the word go for us," said Guru Kedarnath, Mylapore coach.

The 19-year-old's performance improved as he gelled well with the teammates. Now, the spinner has taken 26 wickets in 8 games and is in fifth position in the tournament. His three five-wicket hauls and some important knocks at crucial junctures helped his side keep their campaign on track.

Now, they have entered the final for the first time after entering the league four years ago. Harsh will play alongside leading offie Ravichandran Ashwin in the title clash starting Thursday.

"His performances with both bat and ball made the difference. Along with others, Harsh played an important role in taking the team to the final," Kedarnath said.

It is learnt that Ashwin had even wished Harsh via one of his Rajasthan Royals teammates during the IPL.

"He is a complete package. He has got good drift and overspin. The best part is he gives good air to the ball. These qualities and consistency make him unique," said Mylapore coach.

As Harsh looks to play with Ashwin, Dhananjay Durugkar from Ruby Club, Harsh's parent club in Nagpur, hopes for another good show. "We hope he bowls a match-winning spell in the final like he did for Vidarbha," said Durugkar.
