Harry Winks labeled ‘the washing machine’ by Italian press after composed Sampdoria performance

Harry Winks has been praised by the Italian press after a brilliant performance for Sampdoria against Monza.

The England international, who left boyhood club Tottenham on loan this summer, had initially struggled with injury after moving to Serie A but is starting to come into form.

Winks has started the last three games for Samp and helped end their run of consecutive defeats away at Monza, who are now part-owned by former AC Milan supremo Silvio Berlusconi.

The 27-year-old had the most touches of any of his teammates (53) and played the highest number of passes (35) at the highest rate of accuracy (82.9%).

As a result, Winks - once described as “Little Iniesta” by former manager Mauricio Pochettino - has been hailed by La Gazzetta dello Sport as the “washing machine” for tidying up Sampdoria’s possession.

It is the second time in only a few days a Spurs loanee has been praised for a performance with another club.

Djed Spence, who left north London for Rennes on deadline day, earned rave reviews on his debut in Ligue 1 despite a loss to Lille.
