Harry Styles has sparked backlash over artwork on a New York concert ticket that some fans say evokes imagery associated with the 9/11 attacks, with the controversy emerging just two days before its 25th anniversary.

The ticket for Styles' Wednesday, 9 September show at Madison Square Garden features a yellow car, seemingly carrying the singer, flying above the Empire State Building and leaving a trail across the landmark's spire.

The design has drawn sharp reactions online because of its timing and what some fans perceived as a resemblance to imagery associated with the 2001 attacks. Commentators noted that the overlap with the anniversary heightened sensitivities in New York, where memorial events were already underway.

Harry Styles' NYC Ticket Artwork Sparks Outrage

A social media user shared an image of the ticket, prompting criticism from other users who questioned the decision to use the design during 9/11 week in New York.

Fans said the image was unsettling given the proximity of the 25th anniversary of the attacks.

One person described the artwork as 'f-king insane', while another called it 'a little bold' given the timing. A further reaction asked, 'literally who approved this?'

However, the artwork does not explicitly identify 9/11 as its subject, and there has been no indication from Styles or his representatives that it was intended as a reference to the attacks.

Fans React to Harry Styles' Ticket Artwork

The artwork quickly drew criticism online, with fans questioning its timing just days before the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

'A little bold given its 9/11 week in NYC but the colours are cute!' one user said.

Another called the perceived 9/11 reference 'diabolical', writing: 'putting that on the back the week of 9/11 is f*cking insane. it's cute, but i fear that was not a good idea.'

Others questioned who approved the design, with one user writing, 'bro that's wild', while another asked, 'literally who approved this?'

Neither Styles nor his representatives had yet to address the controversy surrounding the ticket artwork.

The artwork does not explicitly reference 9/11, and there is no confirmed evidence that Styles or his team intended it as a reference to the attacks. The backlash is based on some fans' interpretation of the design and its timing.

Harry Styles' New York Concert

Styles is currently undertaking a 30-night residency at Madison Square Garden as part of his Together, Together Tour. The run began on 26 August and is scheduled to continue through 31 October, making New York his only US stop on the 2026 tour.

The 9 September performance was the seventh show of the residency. Styles is also scheduled to perform at Madison Square Garden on 11 and 12 September, meaning his New York run overlaps directly with the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

The residency supports Styles' fourth studio album, Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally. Jamie xx is serving as the opening act for the Madison Square Garden dates.

The controversy comes as Styles prepares to extend the Together, Together Tour into 2027. He told fans that the additional dates would represent the 'final cities' for the tour, adding that he did not know what would come next for him.
