Harry Styles, Florence Pugh and Olivia Wilde shut down the Venice Film Festival red carpet

It was the most hotly anticipated event at this year’s Venice Film Festival, and the premiere of Don’t Worry Darling did not disappoint as its stars descended on the red carpet this evening.

Not only does the Olivia Wilde directed psychological thriller count Harry Styles, Florence Pugh, Gemma Chan and Chris Pine in it’s cast, but it has also been the subject of speculation and controversy which began when Shia LaBeouf left the cast in September last year, and intensified following FKA Twigs’ lawsuit against the actor for abuse.

Next came romance, as Wilde and Styles began dating, before speculation about bitterness within the team arose as Pugh missed the press conference for the film earlier today.

Thankfully, she did arrive on the red carpet - and in spectacular style. The actress, who brought her grandmother to enjoy proceedings, opted for an off-the-shoulder, sculptural sheer look plucked from the Valentino AW22 couture collection. The look was shown on the Spanish Steps in Rome this July, and features a bodysuit and flowing train and was paired with the same feathered black stilettos worn by Pugh.

Styles took a more minimalist approach with his broad shouldered, navy blue Gucci suit. Dressed by his long-term stylist Harry Lambert, the Watermelon Sugar singer pulled off an extended statement collar in pale blue matching his manicure, and polished off the look with large, seventies style shades and white boots.

Wilde also opted for Gucci for the occasion, to the delight of the house’s CEO Marco Bizzarri who was also present. Her custom gown came in a pale yellow, and billowed out into a headturning trail with a frothy feather trim. The outfit was styled by celebrity favourite Karla Welch, and featured crystal chains draped over the shoulders and cinching at the waist. Talk about high glamour.

Taking the sparkling memo a step further was Chan, who was a glittering vision in a full silver sequin column dress with floral appliqué by Louis Vuitton. The actress has a long standing affiliation with Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquiere, who was also the man behind her choice for this year’s Met Gala. She chose to show off her halter neck straps by keeping her hair up in a sleek bun.

It was not only the cast who strove for excellence this evening, though. Actress Tessa Thompson, who has made headlines wearing designs from the top fashion houses this Venice Film Festival, lived up to expectations in a lime green dress with a metallic, puffball hem and train from Marc Jacobs’ AW22 ready-to-wear collection. She paired it with a challenging pair of towering white platform heels from the designer, as she continued her duties as a member of the “Luigi De Laurentiis” award jury at the festival.
