Harry Redknapp labels Dele Alli as ‘almost embarrassing’ after struggling at Everton following Tottenham exit

Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has criticised Dele Alli for his inauspicious start to life at Everton.

The midfielder called an end to his Tottenham career during the closing stages of the January transfer window after failing to establish himself under a number of manager, with his move to Goodison Park seen as a fresh start.

While it’s important to remember these are early days at Everton who, frankly, have been utterly dysfunctional in recent weeks, it’d be fair to say Dele has struggled to have much of an impact.

The 25-year-old has been afforded only one start by Frank Lampard and was named on the bench for their doomed trip to north London on Monday night.

Brought on for the final twenty minutes, Dele was given a warm reception from the crowd but could do little to influence the game, albeit one that had already been lost in meek fashion.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Redknapp suggested “there’s got to be something wrong”.

“What’s happened to Dele Alli? Frank brought him in and was so excited about signing him, there’s got to be something wrong with what he’s doing as he can’t get in the team.

“He goes back to Tottenham last night and it’s almost embarrassing. He was such a big player and when you go back to your old club you don’t want to sit on the bench.

“You want to show them what you can do. He’s done nothing since he’s been there.

“I’ve been one of his biggest fans, but there’s a few of them that need to start performing as they are in desperate trouble.”
