Harry Redknapp believes Leeds United have 'picked up a cracker' in summer transfer window

Harry Redknapp has included Leeds United duo Illan Meslier and Brenden Aaronson in his Premier League team of the week following the first round of fixtures of the new season.

Both players impressed in the Whites' 2-1 victory over Wolves at Elland Road, with Meslier making some vital saves, and Aaronson catching the eye on his debut, although he was cruelly denied a first goal for the club.

Redknapp's team of the opening weekend included big names including Chelsea's N'Golo Kante and Leeds-born Erling Haaland, but the Whites were still represented in his squad. The 75-year-old labelled Meslier's performance as 'solid' and thinks Leeds have signed 'a cracker' in the form of Aaronson.

“Leeds looked lively against Wolves on Saturday, but they had their goalkeeper to thank on more than one occasion,” Redknapp told BetVictor.

“Meslier saved them a few times, including a crucial one just before the break. He makes himself big, which all good keepers’ do. He looks very solid in there.

“Leeds manager, Jesse Marsch, looks like he’s picked up a cracker in Brenden Aaronson. They know each other well having worked together at Salzburg, and you can see why Marsch has brought him in. He suits Leeds perfectly. Loads of energy, a constant threat. He got his goal as well, so he’ll be delighted with his Premier League debut.”
