Harry McKirdy Hibs transfer talks begin as Lee Johnson makes move for Swindon striker

Swindon and Hibs have opened transfer talks over Harry McKirdy.

Lee Johnson knows he must add to his squad before Thursday’s transfer deadline and he’s in need of strikers. Kevin Nisbet won't be back in action for a couple of months after a serious injury suffered last season while Christian Doidge ’s future at Easter Road remains unclear.

The Hibees were linked with McKirdy towards the end of last season and were understood to have rekindled their interest during the window. Record Sport understands they’ve now entered talks with Town in a bid to get a deal done. McKirdy was recently handed a three-match ban and a £1500 fine after he was sent off against Salford City earlier this month. He received two bookings in the goalless draw on the opening day of the League Two season, and reacted by storming up the tunnel and into the official’s dressing room, where he threw a bottle of protein shake at the wall, which burst and covered the referee’s and assistants’ clothes.

An FA statement described McKirdy’s behaviour as “aggressive and improper.” It's unclear whether Swindon will take any further action, although that may not be necessary if a switch to Edinburgh is sealed this week.

McKirdy is in the final year of his contract at the County ground so could be available for a cut-price fee. The 25-year old arrived at Swindon in 2021 and has since netted 25 times and provided 10 assists in 49 outings for the Robins.

Johnson has come under pressure after Hibs lost 1-0 at St Mirren on Saturday. After an early exit from the Premier Sports Cup, fans are keen to see a sharp improvement and more new faces to a squad that has already been significantly changed since the former Hearts midfielder was appointed.
