Harry Kane wants Tottenham return against Brentford in bid to quickly banish World Cup heartbreak

Harry Kane is aiming to quickly put his World Cup heartache behind him by turning out for Tottenham in their London derby at Brentford on Boxing Day.

Kane and the rest of the England squad flew back from Qatar on Sunday night, touching down at Birmingham Airport, and the striker will have a week off before reporting back to Spurs next Monday, December 19.

That will give Kane seven days to gear up for the return of the Premier League season, with Spurs due to play a friendly against Ligue 1 club Nice on December 21 in preparation.

Kane has said it will take him "some time" to recover from missing a late penalty in England's crushing 2-1 defeat by France in the World Cup quarter-final on Saturday, and he will want to put the experience behind him with a strong restart to the campaign.

The Spurs players who crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage, including midfielders Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, are due back at Hotspur Way today, snow permitting, while South Korea's Heung-min Son is set to return on Wednesday after elimination in the last-16.

Richarlison, whose Brazil side lost in the quarter-finals against Croatia, is also due to report back next Monday, although there is currently no date for the players involved in the final week of the tournament to return.

Ivan Perisic's Croatia face Cristian Romero's Argentina in Tuesday’s first semi-final, before Hugo Lloris will captain France against Morocco in the other last-four tie.

With the third-place play-off on Saturday and final the following day, the trio all appear unlikely to be involved against Brentford - if Spurs also allow them a week's holiday.
