Harry Kane wants Bayern Munich transfer, insists Uli Hoeness: ‘We’ll get him’

Harry Kane wants to join Bayern Munich this summer according to the club’s former president and current board member Uli Hoeness, who is evidently confident of a deal being struck.

Bayern are trying hard to sign the England captain in this window as they search for a top new striker and have so far seen two bids rejected by Tottenham, the second worth around £70million plus add-ons.

The reigning Bundesliga champions’ manager, Thomas Tuchel, was quizzed on the Kane saga earlier on Saturday, refusing to discuss the player specifically with reporters at a press conference but insisting that Bayern would go “all in” if they found a player who fit the bill in their high-profile pursuit of a new No9.

But the outspoken Hoeness, Bayern’s former forward, general manager and two-time president who currently serves as the club’s honorary president and deputy chairman of their supervisory board, showed no such restraint when asked for his own thoughts on the Kane situation afterwards.

Hoeness insisted that Kane has signalled his firm desire to join Bayern, revealing his confidence in a transfer being completed this summer.

He also provided an update on talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and heaped praise on Kane’s representatives - including brother Charlie - while stressing the player’s desire to play in the Champions League again next term, something he would achieve at Bayern but not Spurs, who are not in Europe at all in 2023/24 after finishing eighth in the Premier League last season.

“He [Kane] signalled very clearly that his decision was made. And if it stays that way, we’ll get him,” Hoeness said according to multiple German outlets, including Munich newspaper Abendzeitung.

“Levy is clever. First we have to get him to name a price. He plays for time, is a great professional. I appreciate him very much. But on the other side [at Bayern] there aren’t any people who have been doing this since yesterday.

“He wants to play internationally [in Europe]. Tottenham won’t be there next season, unlike our club. He now has another opportunity to come to a top club in Europe.

“What we really like about Kane is that his advisors, that is his father and his brother, are very pleasant. So far they have always stood by what they have promised. And if it stays that way, then that’s okay.”

Kane has entered the final 12 months of his current contract at Tottenham, where he reported for pre-season training earlier this week and held positive first talks with new head coach Ange Postecoglou before joining his team-mates on a flight to Australia for the first leg of their pre-season tour.

Standard Sport understands that Kane does not intend to agitate for a Spurs exit this summer, as he did amid Manchester City’s strong interest in 2021. He is keeping an open mind on his future at this stage and would consider many options including leaving Tottenham in this window, departing on a free transfer in a year’s time or else signing a new contract, having been offered a bumper new deal.

However, it is understood that he will not commit to any new contract while the summer transfer window remains open and unless Spurs show significant progress on the pitch under Postecoglou next season.

Tottenham do not want to sell Kane, although it is thought that they would have to consider any offers in excess of £100m. It was reported earlier this week that Levy had met with Bayern officials in order to discuss a potential deal, with some later suggesting that French giants Paris Saint-Germain were now attempting to hijack their bid.
