Harry Kane still has Man City transfer chance but his displays disrespect Tottenham

Where has that Harry Kane been?

The Tottenham and England striker turned it on in style against Manchester City on Saturday night, scoring twice and sparking a shock defeat for Pep Guardiola.

It was as if he was saying with every goal, pass and kick: “Look what you still could have Pep… look what you could sign in the summer.”

The way pundits and fans were salivating over the England star’s performance, anyone would think Kane was on a tally like Mohamed Salah's 17 League goals (after a month away too).

Well, actually he is on a total of seven goals in the Premier League so far this season.

Spurs are paying Harry a fortune and I can't be the only one reading ulterior motives into the Phoenix-like performance.

Harry is having a strange season after his £100m move to City broke down in the summer. He downed tools, and hasn’t been at his best in many games.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Should City make another move for Kane? Let us know in the comments.

He’s become a flat track bully with six goals in the Europa Conference League. Six for England - four of them against Andorra and Albania. And four cup goals, one against Morecambe making a total of 23 in all games.

But seven goals in the heat of the Premier League puts him equal 16th in the rankings.

That’s level with Palace midfielder Connor Gallagher and Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka.

And one behind Brighton’s Neal Maupay and West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen.

I thought it was very odd, that level of performance, coincidentally against a club that wanted him, a manager that wanted him, around team mates that would have gone wow, what a performance.

He turned it on when he wanted to impress.

You can come to the conclusion that either Harry has been unlucky with his performances this season, or the performance against Man City was a professional player switched on, fully motivated and putting on a show of strength to the club that didn’t get him.

It was an exceptional all-round strike performance.

But where has it been all season? Is it grossly unfair on Tottenham and their fans who pay his wages that they don’t see it more.

How can you be world class one week, and then be just ok, within yourself, for the previous 20 games?

Harry has got two years of being able to score top numbers. He is not the physical presence that Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Cristiano Ronaldo are.

But I do wonder if he has missed the boat on a big move.

If City win the Champions League this season Pep Guardiola may say actually the reason to sign Harry, that extra push for the European trophy, doesn’t apply anymore.

Do they want to spend big, and give a five year contract to a man who is 29 before next season, or go for Erling Haaland, who would be at his peak.

On Saturday we saw Harry finding the edge to be so good that Pep can’t ignore him next summer.

But if it’s Kane or Haaland, they’ll sign Haaland and they’ll be future proofed by it.

There is no way he should be 16th top scorer in the Prem.

He would only be worth £70m this summer, and it won’t be financial restrictions that stop it. City need a striker, but it all depends on whether they can get Haaland.

The next phase for City probably means looking to the next generation

That performance against City, brilliant though it was, showed a disrespect to Spurs for his levels in other games this season.
